The graduate of the Doctorate in Education conducts autonomous research that allows the production of relevant knowledge in the field of education, understanding the fundamental problems of the same, based on theories and paradigms contributed by different areas of knowledge, to contribute to the improvement of educational policies and practices with integrity and research ethics. In addition, it creatively contributes to the construction, circulation and communication of knowledge in various formats to reach different audiences.
The UC Education Doctorate program has a 6-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Commission (CNA), the highest achieved by doctoral programs in Education in our country.

The Doctorate curriculum includes training in contemporary issues in the educational field and its approach from research in areas such as Pedagogy, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Economics and Public Policies, as well as systematic training in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies in Education.
This program offers a wide variety of complementary training courses taught by the Faculty of Education and other School of the university.
The study plan considers minimum courses, electives and thesis development courses, with a total of 380 credits that are carried out in 8 semesters. The first two years of studies are dedicated exclusively to the program. After obtaining the candidacy, other activities can be developed that are related to the research project.

The PhD in Education UC supports students to develop their research with an international perspective, through congresses, internships or co-tutelage in highly prestigious foreign universities. Similarly, the program encourages doctoral students from other institutions to carry out activities of this type in our institution, consolidating global collaboration networks.
The lines of research of the Doctorate account for the disciplinary and interdisciplinary diversity of the research carried out by the members of the Senate of the program.
This line studies topics such as the development of professional knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, initial and continuous teacher training, reflection and teacher evaluation, supervision, mentoring, among others.
This line studies topics such as contemporary theories of inclusive education and the different markers of identity. It also seeks to understand and evaluate the influence of the political context, the design of public policies, and the leadership of school organizations, on the quality and educational equity to improve the school system at its different levels.
This line studies issues such as pedagogical authority, the physical and aesthetic environment of the school, the ethical-democratic capacities of teachers and students, environmental education as citizen training, as well as the climate and school violence, among others.
This line studies topics such as institutional learning, technical-professional education, internationalization in higher education institutions, knowledge construction in a globalized society, innovation in various organizational structures, among others.
This line develops research, training and transfer in the areas of disciplinary literacy, disciplinary teaching and learning, transversal learning skills, classroom interactions and practices, information and communication technologies; multimodality, teaching practices, innovation with the use of technology, and academic language.
This line investigates, forms and develops transfer in the development and learning of early childhood skills such as initial literacy, executive function, self-regulation and socio-emotional development.
This line produces knowledge using different modalities of analysis (quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods) that contribute to decision-making in the educational system. It studies the development and validation of measurement instruments, learning evaluation, evaluation and analysis of school processes, impact evaluation and implementation of educational programs, among others.
The applications to PhD in Education are open every year during august and september. Those who have a bachelor's or master's degree, awarded by Chilean or foreign universities, can apply.
