Alejandro Carrasco participates in the Global Forum of Education Deans

The event brought together leaders from different Faculties and Schools of Education, who discussed the global challenges in teacher training and formulated new strategies to connect their training with the future challenges of societies.

Alejandro Carrasco, dean of the Faculty of Education UC along with other deans of Education from around the world met between October 18 and 20 in Dublin, Ireland, to attend the Global Education Deans Forum 2023 (GEDF '23), which brings together Faculties or Schools of Education that train teachers and are intensive in educational research. The host venue this 2023 was Dublin City University.
GEDF '23 brought together leaders of Education faculties, who discussed global challenges in teacher training and formulated new strategies to connect their training with the future challenges of societies. The event was also attended by authorities from universities in the United States, England, Australia, China, South Africa, Germany and Singapore, among others, such as the University of Melbourne, University College London, Boston College, Vanderbilt University, University of Edinburgh, East China Normal University and National Institute of Education of Singapore.
Among the topics, the challenges of research and professional doctoral programs and the complexity of teaching work at a global level were addressed, in addition to learning about the experiences of teachers who work in the Irish education system, along with the presentation of specific experiences around these themes.
The dean valued this instance, cataloging it as “an enriching learning experience, on a conversational scale that allows for deepening arguments and solutions. Society's solid appreciation of the teaching profession that exists in other countries such as Ireland, Scotland or Singapore, which means that its challenges are not, as in our country, the projected deficit of teachers or their working conditions, but rather how they “Teachers face artificial intelligence or cultural pluralism in their classrooms.”
During the reception, Dáire Keogh, rector of Dublin City University, highlighted that “it is an honor to welcome deans from distinguished universities around the world to our university. For Ireland, for its founders, education was and has been the key to our prosperity. For this reason, the Faculty of Education of our university is at the heart of our mission.”
The event also defined a common agenda and tasks for the benefit of the communities that the deans lead, and also the date and place of the next meeting: October 2024, Shanghai.
