Teacher well-being project brought together management and coexistence teams from six schools of the SLEP Del Pino at the UC

The “Health and Wellbeing in Schools” initiative, promoted in collaboration with the UC Faculty of Education, the Chilean Safety Association (ACHS) and the Superintendency of Social Security (SUSESO), is led by Dr. Patricia guerrero, academic at UC Education and head of Student Leadership and Wellbeing at CELITED. The project will work throughout the year with six establishments of the SLEP Del Pino, located in the districts of San Bernardo, El Bosque and La Pintana, to prevent psychosocial risks and promote teacher wellbeing.

The event marked the beginning of a collaborative effort aimed at strengthening teacher well-being and preventing psychosocial risks. It also provided an opportunity to present the project's objectives and methodology, as well as creating an initial working space between school communities and the academic team of the UC Faculty of Education and UC School of Psychology, who participate in its implementation.
A project with institutional backing and a collaborative approach
The initiative, awarded in 2025 to academic Patricia Guerrero and member of CELITED, is part of the 49 projects selected by the Fund for Research and Innovation Studies in Occupational Safety and Health, and promoted by SUSESO.

Well-being involves strengthening relationships among teachers, reviewing pedagogical practices, and moving towards more collaborative ways of working.”“Guerrero explained. “The evidence shows that sectors such as health (41,6%), public administration (38,2%) and education (34,4%) present high levels of psychosocial risk, which reinforces the need to develop concrete strategies that promote workplace well-being.”, Agregó.

Psychosocial risks: an urgent challenge in education
Isabel Contrucci, director of Studies at ACHS, highlighted that for the “It is very important for Achs to be part of this project because we believe in the value of research and collaboration.” Furthermore, he adds that “Psychosocial risks and mental health are among the greatest challenges facing the world of work today. The 2025 Social Security Report from the SUSESO (Superintendency of Social Security) shows that 26,4% of the evaluated workplaces in the education sector present medium or high levels of psychosocial risk, with dimensions such as workload and emotional demands being particularly affected. That is why initiatives like this are so important, because they allow us to generate knowledge and advance in evidence-based preventive strategies.”
During the day, activities focused on well-being and reflection on school leadership were also carried out, including an experience of forest bathing on the San Joaquin campus and an activity that used The tree as a metaphor for reflecting on educational communities.
