November 7, 2024

The day of reflection and dialogue on diversity in initial teacher training was supported by the Gender Sub-directorate, the Student Development Sub-directorate and the Physical Education and Health Career Directorate.

On October 29, students, teachers and workers from the UC Faculty of Education participated in the conservatory entitled “Bodies, Sexuality and Physical Education”, organized by Agustín Fritz and Carolina Figueroa, students of the career of Pedagogy in Physical Education and Health. The activity, held in the Mabel Condemarín Room, had the support of the Gender Sub-directorate, the Student Development Sub-directorate and the Physical Education and Health Career Directorate, and focused on the analysis of the paper "Transmotricities, gender reconfiguration in initial teacher training in physical education: a narrative biographical study".

The event allowed attendees to delve deeper into issues related to gender identity and its representation in physical education, through an open and enriching dialogue. Agustín Fritz, co-author of the study, shared his experience in the research and writing process, offering a close-up view on the relevance of questioning and reformulating traditional gender approaches in teacher training.

The conservatory also included the participation of Josefina Reyes, community development coordinator at OTD (Organizing Trans-diversities), who highlighted the importance of creating spaces for conversation in schools for the respect and recognition of trans lives. Josefina emphasized that these types of initiatives are essential to generate significant changes in school dynamics and promote an inclusive education that respects diversity.

Meanwhile Soledad Veliz, a UC Education professor, offered a historical and reflective overview of the role of academic research on issues related to gender identity. Véliz stressed the need to formulate honest and pertinent research questions that reflect the realities and experiences of those who inhabit educational spaces in order to transform the spaces and give a deeper meaning to research in education.

Moderated by Carolina Figueroa, the activity had a high level of participation and impact, generating a deep and constructive conversation among the attendees. This conservatory reaffirmed the educational community's commitment to inclusion and respect for diversity, topics that continue to be of vital importance in the training of future teachers.
