A new series of education colloquia begins with research on the impact of SAE on Catholic schools.
April 23
At the first UC 2025 Education Research Colloquium, researcher Pamela Ayala presented a study examining how Catholic schools address the challenges of the School Admissions System and its impact on equity, inclusion, and fidelity to their educational project.

How do Catholic schools address the challenges and tensions created by the current School Admission System (SAE)? This was the question that guided the first session of the new Education Research Colloquia 2025 series, organized by the Research Directorate of the UC School of Education, in conjunction with the Center for Studies in Education Policies and Practices (CEPPE UC) and the UC Doctoral Program in Education. The activity was carried out on Tuesday April 30 and was led by Pamela Ayala, PhD in Sociology at the UC, who addressed the main findings of her study that analyzes the identity and challenges of Catholic schools supported by religious institutions in Chile.
The colloquium was commented on by Gabriel Gutierrez, a UC Education professor who has researched the impact of mechanisms like the SAE on inclusive education. His participation sought to enrich the analysis from a critical perspective based on school practice.
Dialogue between research and school practice
This instance is part of the research ecosystem of the UC Faculty of Education and its purpose is to promote the exchange between researchers, academics, students, teachers from the school system and the general public.
The objective of this new cycle is to "promote a more explicit dialogue between educational research and school practices," he points out. Paola Seville, director of research at UC Education. To this end, special emphasis will be placed on projects funded by competitions such as the Pedagogy in Religion, Pedagogy in English, FONDEDOC, FONIDU, and Fondecyt Initiation. Each presentation will be commented on by faculty members from a perspective complementary to that of the speaker.
