UC Faculty of Education launches “Paper of the Week” initiative

December 17, 2025

The proposal seeks to recognize and promote the Faculty's scientific output, highlighting recent articles developed by its academic community on a weekly basis.

With the aim of making the research work carried out at the UC Faculty of Education more visible, the Research Directorate and the Communications Sub-directorate launched the initiative “Paper of the Week”This feature highlights a recent academic article each week, disseminated through the Faculty's internal channels and social media. The initiative aims to recognize the dedication and perseverance behind each publication, as well as extend its reach beyond the immediate academic sphere.

The selection considers articles whose first author is part of the Research Ecosystem Articles from the Faculty, indexed in WoS or Scopus—preferably in quartiles Q1 or Q2—as well as book chapters published by highly prestigious publishers with impartial peer review, will be considered. Articles will be identified using information available in SIPA, so keeping institutional profiles up-to-date will be key to their consideration.

This week's featured paper is by "'Are you feeling sad? Tell me about your sadness'. Existential meanings of death and life in Chilean secondary schools" from the UC Education academic William Zamora (in conjunction with Maili Ow González, Catalina Lecaros Besa and Elisa Davanzo Barros).

The text was published in the journal Teachers and Teaching and analyzes how Chilean students who experienced the death of a classmate or teacher in secondary education develop the meaning of life and grief, highlighting the role of the school in providing support, expressing pain, and learning from these experiences.
