In order to know the progress and evaluation of the first year of the Nucleus Millennium for the Study of the Development of Early Mathematics Skills (MEMAT), a meeting was held at the beginning of July between the MEMAT work team and representatives of the Millennium Program of the National Research and Development Agency, ANID.

The event took place within the framework of the follow-up and monitoring activities carried out by Milenio ANID, attended by Mauricio Maldonado, head(s) of the Millennium Department and Frontier Science Initiatives, paulina orellana, center executive, and Maria Jose Veliz, in charge of Millennium Communications.

The objective, explained Mauricio Maldonado, is “to know how the center has fared, how it has worked and its challenges. We are also interested in collecting learning and good practices that we can then share with the rest of the centers”.

From MEMAT its principal, senior, young and adjunct researchers were present, as well as thesis students and coordinators. The director of MEMAT Maria Ines Susperreguy presented the center, summarizing its achievements and experiences during its term, including its lines of research, collaborative and interdisciplinary work, training of young researchers, projection activities to the external environment, among others. Later, the alternate director of MEMAT M. Francisca del Rio and the principal investigator David M. Gomez They presented the strengths, achievements, weaknesses and opportunities diagnosed in this first year of the Nucleus.

“During this time we consolidated an interdisciplinary research team interested in understanding the critical factors that promote the effective and equitable development of early mathematics skills. MEMAT is hosted by three universities: Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Diego Portales University y O'Higgins University. This year we involved seven young researchers, one associate researcher and three postdoctoral researchers, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate students. Our researchers work at our three host universities, but we have also involved other universities and several international collaborators”, indicated María Inés Susperreguy.

María Francisca del Río expressed her gratitude for this visit, noting that “thank you  Due to the fact that we have regular funding from ANID, we have been able to carry out frontier research with results that may later positively impact the mathematical learning of boys and girls.
