The new volume just published by Educational Thought Latin American Educational Research Journal (PEL) presents 9 articles from the open window process. This is the first of its two annual editions and brings together the participation of 23 researchers and researchers from universities and research centers Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, the United States and Spain.

This new edition of PEL includes research that addresses problems in the educational field from primary education to Technical Professional and higher education. Among the investigations is the work of Pamela Barría (UMCE) entitled “The work of beginning teachers in a pandemic in vulnerable contexts according to new teachers and principals”, while the researcher Carmen Araneda (Universidad de Tarapacá) publishes “Gender gaps in scientific productivity: an approach from Chile”.

Also from Argentina, Melisa Maina presents  "Potential for the use of playful-literary activities in initial reading comprehension", a longitudinal quasi-experimental investigation that addresses the potential benefits of implementing playful-literary activities in the initial stages of learning, favoring reading comprehension.

"This number brings important contributions with application to teaching-learning processes that we hope can inform reflection and practice among PEL readers. Besides, provides contributions to feed the discussion on gender biases in higher education and academia. It reveals a plurality of themes, epistemological visions and enriching methodological choices for the interdisciplinary dialogue that we must hold between education professionals”, indicates Edgar Valencia, executive editor of the magazine and academic at the UC School of Education.

educational thought was indexed to the bibliographic database of scopus in 2018, recognition from the international academy that accounts for its high standards. The publication, which was born in 1953 under the eaves of the Faculty of Education of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, continues to consolidate as a free access journal. From 2021 was also indexed to Scielo, evidencing a growth that has been noted from a sustained increase in the number of articles received, which today triples the number of papers received in 2019.

On the occasion of the 70 years of the magazine, from this 2023 PEL will go from publishing 2 to 3 issues per year, seeking to make visible the large number of quality articles that enter its website.

The next issue of PEL magazine corresponds to the annual thematic volume 60(2), on "Citizenship and education in times of democratic and global crisis", publication by Ernesto Trevino and Catalina Miranda -guest editors-, which will be published in mid-August.
