Rector Ignacio Sánchez visits the Closing the Educational Gaps course: "It is a clear sign of the public commitment of the Catholic University"

The course, taught by the UC School of Education, aims to train educational tutors, and includes field work with schoolchildren from El Bosque.

44 students from different UC majors joined the first version of the UC Education course Closing Educational Gaps in 2023, an instance that aims to train educational tutors. This Monday, the rector of the Pontifical Catholic University, Ignacio Sánchez, visited the students to learn about their different proposals.
"I think it is a very clear sign of the public commitment of the Catholic University through its teachers and students who focus on to be able to contribute with solutions to the different educational gaps that have been seen in the country after the pandemic, and as a result of the educational differences to which our system, both private and public, is subjected," said Rector Ignacio Sánchez about his visit.
The course goes hand in hand with the announcement recently announced by the Ministry of Education, which seeks get 20 thousand tutors in the framework of Educational Reactivation Plan. For its development and implementation, an alliance was formed with the I Learn Connected Foundation and with the Department of Education of the commune of El Bosque, a municipality where throughout the semester the students they implement around 12 tutorial sessions.
The instance of this Monday also had the participation of professors and professors from different academic units, such as Francisco Gallego of the Institute of Economics, Veronica Cabezas de UC Education and executive director of at Elige Educar, Paulina Carrillo from the unit of Learning and Service, Gonzalo gallardo of the School of Psychology, and the UC Education academic Paulo Defensive Midfielder, who coordinates and teaches the course.
“Our students from the most diverse UC careers They are committed to tutoring schoolchildren. During the session we were able to share proposals for improvement, in the efforts of reduce educational gaps and, especially, we listen to initiatives that contribute to enhance and enrich the tutoring experience in our country”, pointed out Professor Paulo Volante.
The hope is that future UC professionals can use their knowledge to help reduce the existing educational gaps in Chile, along with developing in themselves an experience of leadership, empathy, and solidarity with the reality of the educational system.
