What is the role of the tutor or peer tutor?

El tutor o tutor pair is a student who collaborate in the implementation of Program activities, whose role is to guide the group of tutors under their charge regarding the academic processes and the instances of student support in the Faculty and the university, resolve concerns about the study program, generate instances of knowledge and integration of the group of tutors and tutors among themselves and promote integration with the rest of the student community. In addition, the tutor encourages participation in the different instances of university life offered by the Faculty, the Student Centers and the university.

Also, it implements actions tending to facilitate the process of adaptation to the academic demands of the UC, and their personal development, enhancing their autonomy.

How did this Program come about?

The program arose in 2013, as a result of the needs detected in the Performance Agreement of the Faculty of Education, and that year work was done on the diagnostic elements in conjunction with the Student Centers.

After this start, in 2014 the first version of the Peer Tutoring Program was implemented with around 14 tutors, and it came to depend on the Student Sub-directorate. The following year, in its second year of existence, the program grew and had the training of the FACE program, in addition to the leadership of the UC Education Student Affairs Subdirectorate.

Who can participate in the Peer Tutor Program?

They can be tutors or tutors those regular students of the races of UC Pedagogy who are currently in their second year of college or higher years.

We seek students who feel motivated for their career, with experience in working with people or in student activities and, in addition, possess or have potential for development and characteristics related to interpersonal communication skills, empathy, ethical conduct, leadership, among others. In the same way, students who in their life experience or in the university have faced difficulties and have managed to overcome them and learn from them.

Another fundamental requirement is to have a weighted average, at the time of applying, equal to or greater than 5.0. This requirement can be made more flexible only if the applicant meets the tutor's personal skills profile.

Finally, the tutor must have time availability to dedicate themselves to the program and be willing to attend training.

Organization and way of working
