CIIE

More than 400 national and international presentations in 18 research areas and three prominent international speakers will meet at the Sixth Interdisciplinary Education Research Congress -CIIE 2024-, which will be held again in Santiago de Chile, after 4 years of absence, between October 22 and 24, 2024.

The CIIE is the result of a joint and interdisciplinary effort of leading organizations in the production of knowledge in education. It is organized by the National Council of Deans in Education (CONFAUCE) and the Chilean Association of Researchers in Education (ACHIE) and by recognized study centers and faculties: the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education and the CIAE of the University of Chile ; the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, through its Faculty of Education, the CEPPE UC and the Center for Educational Justice; the Enzo Faletto Study and Research Center of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Santiago; the faculties of Education of the Alberto Hurtado and Diego Portales University; the Education Research Center (CIE) of the UMCE; and C Líder: Associative Center for Educational Leadership, led by the PUCV.

In a global context of uncertainty marked by the climate crisis and migratory phenomena and in which the effects of the pandemic are still being felt, the challenges in education are increasingly critical. In this scenario, the CIIE seeks to bring together researchers from different countries who will share and debate the latest findings in education to address these challenges, covering the multiple and diverse disciplines of study of the educational phenomenon, taking into account different perspectives, approaches. theoretical and methodological.

The focus of its sixth version will be Building futures: The contribution of educational research for social justice. “Although the educational system in Chile has made progress in providing better quality educational opportunities, the global context of changes and the challenges of the pandemic, including new ways of teaching based on technology, have not yet produced educational responses for everyone. , especially for those who have diverse abilities, come from disadvantaged socio-economic contexts or are migrants,” says Beatrice Ávalos, National Education Award winner and president of CIIE 2024. In this context, she adds, in accordance with the Fourth Sustainable Development Goal of the UN to guarantee inclusive, equitable, quality education and lifelong learning opportunities, "in this Congress we hope to learn about and analyze relevant research that contributes to the fulfillment of this objective."

Notable speakers include Gloria Ladson-Billings, researcher at the Wisconsin Education Research Center and professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research examines the pedagogical practices of effective teachers with African American students and the educational applications of critical race theory.

Another of the speakers will be the Sociology academic from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and associate researcher at the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), Antoni Verger. His research examines the relationship between global governance institutions and educational policy, that is, how educational policies are diffused internationally and enacted in different institutional settings, and what effects this has on the quality and equity of education.

And finally, you will participate Axel Rivas, director of the School of Education at the University of San Andrés, Argentina, and academic director of the Center for Applied Research in Education San Andrés (CIAESA). He is the author of 18 books on education topics, including: “The New Digital Education Policy Landscape” (Routledge, 2023), “Examining Educational Policy in Latin America” (Routledge, 2022), “Las LLaves de la Educación” (Santillana , 2020) and “Who Controls the Future of Education?” (2019st Century, XNUMX).
