What is the importance of practice in the training of future teachers?

Putting theory into practice is one of the most important challenges any future professional has. when applying what they have learned, from their time in higher education, in the labor market. The Faculty of Education of the Catholic University is clear about this challenge and from 2013 he turned his energies into focus the curriculum on practice for their teaching careers.

The change landed hard after lsigning the performance agreement carried out by the Faculty in conjunction with the Ministry of Education (Mineduc) which mainly sought the renewal of disciplinary, didactic and practical courses.  

In this sense, the authorities of the Faculty adopted a new challenge and focused their eyes on the successful experiences of other universities in the world. In this way, the new UC Education mesh is based on models of university faculties, such as, U of Michigan y Stanford (both in the US).

The academic Magdalena Müller, explains that “at the UC we have realized that another thing is with the guitar when it comes to teaching. The challenge is for our students to graduate feeling capable of offering challenging learning opportunities to all their students. in various contexts.

To achieve this ultimate goal, says the authority, "we have made an effort to integrate the language of the university with the language of the school, in such a way that they mutually nourish each other. This, because we are convinced that there is nothing more practical than a good theory”.

During the fair held on the 17th (turn of Pedagogy in Early Childhood Education) and November 18 (Basic Pedagogy), the students showed the challenges they had when facing their practices in one of the 50 centers that the Faculty has in the network.

Testimony of this is the experience of the fifth year student of Early Childhood Education, María Ignacia Concha, who highlighted the importance of practicing before professionally facing a course.
