UC Education Undergraduate students lived international training experiences

April 8

9 students of Pedagogy in English took classes in public schools in the United States and one student of Pedagogy in Religion traveled to Chad to carry out curricular activities.

Chad and the United States were the countries that students from the UC Faculty of Education visited in recent months. The students lived training experiences that allowed them to apply the learning acquired during their degree and immerse themselves in educational activities in a context other than the national one.

9 English Pedagogy students took classes in public schools in the United States thanks to the Third Academic Internship Competition 2024. The participating students were:

  • Nicolás Orlando Aguilera Fuentes
  • Graciela Elisa Asenjo Abarzúa
  • Jeimy Cristián Dellepiane Espinoza
  • Felipe Andrés González Contreras
  • Francisca Antonia Llancas Gutiérrez
  • Daniel Humberto Martinez Gonzalez
  • Heidi Valentina Núñez Elgueda
  • Dafne Ayalen Polanco Castillo
  • Mayra Irene Sepúlveda Olguín

Bernardita Pérez, UC Religion Pedagogy student, traveled to Chad to carry out curricular activities within the framework of the “Pallqa program for cooperation and leadership in an international context.”

“International internships for student teachers are essential for their professional and personal development. These experiences allow future educators to apply the knowledge acquired in their academic training in diverse educational contexts, which enriches their pedagogical perspective and provides them with tools to face global challenges in the educational field,” mentioned Malba Barahona, director of Undergraduate Education UC. .

“In addition, immersion in different cultures fosters empathy, adaptability and intercultural understanding, key skills for teachers in an increasingly interconnected world. These international training experiences not only benefit student teachers, but also positively impact the educational communities with which they interact, promoting the exchange of ideas and innovative pedagogical practices,” she added.

ChileMass Teachers

Boston, Massachusetts, United States, was the destination of the 9 UC English Pedagogy students who traveled to take classes in public schools and different educational activities within the framework of the Internship Contest Academics to Boston 2024 Organized by the Ped English program for basic in collaboration with ChileMass Teachers and the UC Vice-Rector for International Affairs.

For a month they lived in Boston, in a dormitory at Framigham University with American university students. The students participated in academic and cultural activities, shared with American teachers and carried out pedagogical activities in public schools such as Hemenway Elementary School and Walsh Middle School and in Catholic subsidized schools associated with Boston College.

At the end of their experience, the students gave a presentation called “Problems of Practice” in front of a panel of experts at the Cambridge Innovation Center. The project consisted of identifying a real challenge in the classroom and creating a concrete solution that they will implement once back in Chile, applying what they learned.

Chad, Africa

Bernardita Pérez Santander, a UC Religion Pedagogy student, was the student who was awarded the scholarship from the Vice-Rector for International Affairs in 2024 to travel to Chad, with the aim of carrying out curricular activities.

The trip was developed within the framework of the “Pallqa cooperation and leadership in an international context” program, which seeks to enable UC students to contribute to regional development together with non-governmental organizations inserted in local communities in different parts of the world.

Bernadette defines her trip as “an incredible experience.” “It helped me a lot to learn a new perspective on education, because sometimes we think that education is only academic instruction. And as Gabriela Mistral says, education happens everywhere, not just in a classroom,” the student reflects.
