Faculty of Education UC hosted the 2nd RIECH Doctoral Student Colloquium on Education issues 2022

December 12, 2022

The event was a space in which different doctoral students presented, at the UC Faculty of Education, their research related to different areas of Education.

In full face-to-face, on December 2, the 2nd Colloquium of Doctoral Students in Education in Chile, In the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University. The activity was organized by the Network of Researchers in Chilean Education (RIECH) and included the participation of doctoral students and researchers from the same university and other houses of study both in Chile and abroad.

The colloquium had the purpose of promote the space for the exchange of knowledge and dissemination of initial, ongoing or completed research work, as well as establishing and consolidating networks among doctoral students in the field of education. About this, Valeria Cabello, head of the PhD program, pointed out that this colloquium is "a space for meeting, dialogue and to find out what the other doctoral programs are doing and this means a training opportunity for our students."

For the academic, in addition, the fact that the organization has been created by RIECH members and students of the Doctoral program speaks of their level of leadership in mobilizing networks that have a single formality: the joint generation of synergies to build knowledge”, he indicated. It allows doctoral students to acquire new skills that are part of "our commitment to doctoral training, but in this case it is voluntary on the part of the students", He added.

One of the student organizers was Daniela Appelgren. The researcher is in her first year of the program PhD in Education UC and commented that the management of the event was initiated by marisol campillay, who is currently completing a doctoral internship at The College of Education at the Oregon state university. From that place, Campillay invited her colleagues to be part of this colloquium and the venue for the face-to-face event was at the Faculty of Education.

For Appelgren this event has been a gateway to meet his colleagues both from the doctorate at UC and from other training programs from Chile and abroad: "This allows us to meet those who are investigating our issues, and to generate research and collaboration ties."

His words were joined by his program partner, Gerardo Ubilla, who was one of the speakers who presented his doctoral research on the experience of first cycle teachers who integrate controversial issues in teaching. He colloquium is beneficial for the UC PhD program, since it allows "identifying the topics that interest young researchers, mostly researchers in training and be able to incorporate them into our training”.

In this sense, the researcher highlighted the emergence of research with urgent issues to address. "The Feminist, decolonial, and child-focused themes are issues that "are worrying and occupying us as researchers in order to transform the educational system". For Ubilla, the fact that this colloquium was held It demonstrates a "concrete expression of the interest in transforming that we researchers have who meet once a year to rethink what we have been doing in recent times."
