Secondary Pedagogy in Sciences and Mathematics adds 89 new graduates

More than 400 graduates from the UC Science and Mathematics Pedagogy Program (PEM).   

Secondary Pedagogy Degree in Science and Mathematics

On November 9, 89 new teachers received their professional title, which joins the more than 26.000 teachers who graduated from the Faculty of Education and the more than 400 from the Pedagogy in Sciences and Mathematics Program (PEM).   

The Titling Ceremony took place in the Francisco Rosende Auditorium of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and brought together more than 300 guests, including authorities, academics, professors, students, family and friends of the 89 new teachers.  

The celebration was framed in the “PEM Week”, instance in which 10 years were commemorated since the creation of the Program. This Interfaculty study plan leads to the academic degree of Bachelor of Education and the professional titles of Secondary Education teacher in Natural Sciences and Biology, in Physics, in Mathematics and in Chemistry, respectively.  

Present at the ceremony was the dean of the Faculty of Education, Alejandro Carrasco; the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Eduardo Cerpa; the dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, John Strap; the dean of the Faculty of Physics, Max Bañados; and representing the dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, was the director of Academic Management, Veronica Armstrong and the head of Program, Stephen Ramos.   

After a religious invocation led by Patricia Imbarak, the head of Program, Stephen Ramos He dedicated a few words to the 89 new teachers, and highlighted the importance of this qualification, especially in the context of the tenth anniversary of the Program. “I congratulate you for reaching this stage. “We have complete confidence in their abilities and, above all, in the commitment they have acquired to their wonderful teaching profession.”, Dijo. 

Train professionals of excellence

On the other hand, this year it was the turn of the dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, Juan Correa, to give a speech. In this, he stated that “The main focus of the Program has been the training of excellent professionals who simultaneously acquire knowledge in the respective scientific disciplines. All of this in a solid framework of pedagogical training, with the purpose of preparing them to work as teachers in secondary education.”.  

After a musical intermission, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Alejandro Carrasco, proceeded to take the oath of the new teachers. After this, the aforementioned authorities delivered the diplomas to each of the graduates. 

Finally, on behalf of the graduates of the 2022 and 2023 class, Catalina Rodríguez Errázuriz, teacher of Secondary Education in Physics and Mathematics, He dedicated a few words to everyone present.  “Pedagogy is much more than teaching. For me it represents the opportunity to get involved in the lives of students, to respect and value their differences, and to teach at the pace they can and in the way they need, it is essential. Education is the basis of society, a pillar on which all our aspirations for a better world rest,” he mentioned..
