With the presence of family, friends, authorities and academics, the graduation ceremony of 252 students of the General Education Pedagogy Program, corresponding to the promotions of the year 2021 and 2022. The event took place in the Andronicus Luksic Complex , located on the San Joaquín Campus of the Pontifical Catholic University.

The person in charge of presiding over the ceremony was the dean of the Faculty of Education UC, Alejandro Carrasco, together with the vice-dean of the faculty, Pilar Cox, the director of Undergraduate, Magdalena Muller and the head of the Basic Education Pedagogy Program, Andrea Cáceres.

Alejandro Carrasco made a welcome speech, where he addressed different reflections. One of them was related to the national context in which these professionals work, which occurs “in times when the physiognomy of the profession is being transformed in the country. The teaching profession is being strengthened with multiple policies and initiatives. For this reason, at the moment in which they have to work as educators, the profession will have better conditions for their exercise, ”explained the dean.

All this in a nation – continued the dean – that “values its education, promotes a teaching profession to ensure highly engaged, carefully prepared, continuously developed, appropriately paid, and networked teachers to maximize their own professional expansion, and fully enabled to make effective professional pedagogical judgments, using their abilities and experience”.

To close his speech, the dean quoted a phrase from Gabriela Mistral, which reveals the pedagogical thinking of the poetess and teacher, in whose honor he was named auditorium of our faculty.  “This afternoon this phrase is very significant: 'Always teach: in the yard and on the street as in the classroom. Teaching with attitude, gesture and word'” he indicated.

Catalina Ossandón Melo, graduated from Basic General Pedagogy, mention Language and Communication, was in charge of the speech on behalf of the graduates. In addition to feeling a deep nostalgia when remembering everything lived in the years of professional training, thanked each of the people who were part of the university path.

And I would especially like to thank to the faculty the space and the opportunity to meet and meet wonderful people with whom I shared all these years and who today are a fundamental part of my life. Excellent professionals who work hard, day after day, against all odds to promote education in Chile”, continued the teacher.

As a generation, Ossandón explained, they had to graduate in highly changing and uncertain times that demanded, and continue to demand, to think and rethink the way of being and doing education, marked by the virtual and hybrid context as a result of the pandemic. "The resources are few. many educational needs and little real awareness of their urgency. They and they, our and our students in the daily chore have made me realize this urgency”. For this reason, Catalina expressed a series of questions that she has heard from her students.

"When will we go out into the yard? When will we have an ecological education integrated into nature? When will the tests end? When will the schools put the grades aside to focus on the learning process?", among others. “We cannot solve these questions alone. That is why I invite you together as a community, university professors and professors, college professors, differential educators, nursery educators, academic authorities, politicians and politicians, and all citizens, to take charge of these questions and work on them. for the future of our country” concluded Catalina Ossandón.
